Members of Bray Wheelers gathered at Duff's recently to watch TG4's half-hour programme on the recent Shay Elliott Memorial Race.

Hundreds of cyclists participated in the 59th Shay Elliott Memorial Race took place in May. The programme was screened on TG4 on Friday, July 1. Velemoto TV was commissioned by TG4 to make the documentary.

Highest place Bray Wheeler in the race, Geoff Robinson, was among the members at the screening.

There was aerial footage from two drones, as well as a camera bike following the race. Race director John Spain said that the making of the programme will further enhance the excellent reputation of the event, in advance of next year’s 60th anniversary.

Organisers hope that television exposure will mean more cyclists will come from other counties and countries, pushing up the level of racing and getting more athletes to the next level. The television programme included interviews and action from the wonderful day of sport in County Wicklow.

Bray Wheelers club members enjoyed getting together to watch the show and re-live the highlights of the day.

Sean O'Tuathail rounded out the cyclocross season in style by winning the Planet-X-promoted race in Blackwater Park, Navan, on Sunday afternoon.

The Bray Wheelers man was made to fight for it all the way however, with Eric Downey (Orwell Wheelers) hot on his wheels some 20 seconds back.

With a 250 euro prize for the winner it was no surprise to see the race so hard-fought.

Colm McGarvey (EPIC) and Derek Finnegan (Bray Wheelers) finished third and fourth respectively after good efforts.

O'Tuathail was outside the medals at the national championships last weekend but he has taken some big scalps in Leinster this season, so yesterday's win will have been a very satisfying sign-off to 2016.
